It’s Sunday night. How you feeling about the week ahead?
It’s Sunday night. How you feeling about the week ahead?
If your circumstances are threatening to overwhelm you, a word from Psalm 40:
Once again, David is crying out for help. He’s in a pit of destruction, he’s got enemies hunting him, and he’s haunted by the guilt of his sins.
Verse 12: “For evils have encompassed me beyond number; my iniquities have overtaken me, and I cannot see; they are more than the hairs of my head; my heart fails me.”
Pretty bleak, right?
He’s facing problems from without and within, from the hand of others and from his own sinfulness.
Verse 11, though, gives him - and us - hope:
“As for you, O LORD, you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me!”
God knows what you’re facing right now. He sees what has come through no fault of your own - the job loss, the diagnosis, the bullying, the car wreck, the storm -
and what has come through your own failures - the anger, the pride, the unfaithfulness, the lack of self-control -
And to all of it, he offers his unrestrained mercy, his steadfast love, and his eternal faithfulness.
He will pull you out of the pit and set your feet on a rock, no matter if others knocked you down there or you jumped in on your own.
Unrestrained mercy.
Steadfast love.
Eternal faithfulness.
He will preserve you.
Grace and peace to you in the week ahead.
