It’s Sunday night. How you feeling about the week ahead?
Does your heart feel faint when you consider all that’s waiting for you this week?
Family and work responsibilities that just don’t end? This special situation? That heavy need? The mid-term elections?
This is for you:
Psalm 61:1-4
“Hear my cry, O God,
listen to my prayer;
from the end of the earth I call to you when my heart is faint.Lead me to the rock
that is higher than I,
for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.
Let me dwell in your tent forever!
Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings!”
We feel like we’re at the end of the earth and the end of our rope many days.
When those feelings threaten to overwhelm your heart, here’s where you can go:
The rock that is higher than you
Your refuge
A strong tower
The dwelling place of God
Under the shelter of his wings
Those are all the same place - the arms of the Lord God, Maker of heaven and earth.
Read the list again. Notice how you feel - protected, sheltered, calm, secure.
Though storms may rage around you, though your flesh and heart may fail, your Father is there to strengthen your heart, give relief to your mind and body, and protect you against the enemy.
When all you can do is cry out - he hears, he listens, and he leads you to himself.
You can believe this because he has already taken on the best weapon the enemy can deploy - death - and won.
Find your refuge in him.
Grace and peace to you in the week ahead.
P.S. When it comes to the elections this week, elections matter, and they have consequences, and you should vote according to God’s word, but don’t forget that no matter the results, God’s purposes will not be thwarted by a ballot box.
